2024 Hyundai Sonata parked

Hyundai's mid-size Hyundai Sonata sedan has been available in the American market since 1989. Fast forward to 2024, and the Sonata is now in its eighth generation, introduced in 2019 with a facelift unveiled as recently as August 2023.

The Hyundai Sonata offers far more performance, equipment, and interior features as standard as most of its rivals for similar money. Plus, Hyundai's leading warranties simply make the Hyundai Sonata a standout choice for those looking for a modern and sporty family sedan.

Read on as we share more about what makes the latest Hyundai Sonata such a solid purchase choice.

What's New for 2024?

The recent facelift sees the Sonata adopting the brand's Sensuous Sportiness design language, with the sedan being treated to an enhanced front end and rear bumpers and taillights.

The facelift also saw changes made to the drivetrain options along with interior enhancements and upgraded infotainment displays and connectivity.

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata is available in two trim choices.

The recent facelift has elevated the 2024 Hyundai Sonata's cabin, with occupants' comfort well catered for. Taking pride in place is an upgraded digital driver's cluster and an infotainment screen comprising a panoramic curved display seamlessly joining the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with the 12.3-inch touchscreen, allowing a broad view of all information.

The driver's digital cluster measures 4.3 inches with a larger 12.3-inch digital instrument display that is available when choosing the extra-cost Convenience Package, which also adds LED interior lights, Hyundai digital Key 2 and a panoramic sunroof.

Hyundai restyled the steering wheel for 2024, providing the driver with a new design, and moved the gear selector from the center console to a knob on the steering column, which resulted in the creation of extra storage areas and increased cup holder space. This also offers the driver more room to relax and enjoy the drive.

The center console underwent a complete revamp and now features an extra palm rest on the center armrest, giving the driver more space to relax. Upgraded dashboard materials and enhanced trimmings extend to the rear passenger space to make for an elegant cabin space.

Passengers will enjoy the generous total interior volume, which measures 120 cubic feet, with 104.4 cubic feet of that space available for occupants to sit in comfort. With the available 46.1/34.8 inches of legroom front/rear, both front and rear passengers can stretch their legs on long journeys.

2024 Hyundai Sonata Cargo Space

The Sonata offers 15.6 cubic feet of cargo capacity in its trunk and a roomy 104.4 cubic feet of space for passengers. A standard hands-free smart trunk release feature makes for easier loading, along with the 60/40 split fold-down rear seats to accommodate lengthy items.

Exterior Design

Changes to the exterior see the Sonata's fastback shaped body adopting the brand's Sensuous Sportiness design language, as mentioned above.

The facelift on the 2024 Hyundai Sonata features an enhanced front end that adopts a full-width LED light bar below the hood line, and the main headlights are now hidden above the air intakes, joined by a wider grille and sharper lines to create a sporty and purposeful front view.

Key standard exterior features include:

  • LED headlights
  • Automatic light control
  • LED tail lights
  • Rear spoiler
  • Twin tip exhaust
  • Gloss black side rocker panels
  • Power-heated side mirrors
  • Center High-Mount Stop Light

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata features a standard MacPherson strut with coil springs front suspension system and an independent multi-link design that is sport tuned for the N line at the rear.

The base naturally aspirated engine makes 191 horsepower @ 6,100 rpm and 181 pound feet of torque @ 4,000 rpm, while the turbocharged version pushes out 290 horsepower @ 5,800 rpm and 311 pound feet of torque @ 1,650-4,000 rpm, endowing the Sonata N Line with blistering performance for a family sedan.

Front wheel drive is standard on both trims, with HTRAC All Wheel Drive (AWD) available on the SEL trim.

The base 2.5-liter engine operates with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the powerful turbo-charged engine utilizes an N 8-speed wet dual-clutch transmission.
